Inaugural Dave Alabaster Cup set to kick off community season

Dave Alabaster, left, shares a story with Northland team leader James Coleman

Northland and Auckland Cup winners will face off in the first Dave Alabaster Cup on Saturday 29 March, to get the NRF community season underway.

It's a special day for McKenzie Contracting Onerahi, who represent Northland as Christina Taylor Cup champions 2024. They will meet Carol Waller Cup champions Waitemata in the first competitive match at the upgraded Onerahi Sports Field, which has received substantial upgrades in the off season.

The cup, which is set to be an annual season opener, is named for Dave Alabaster, a Northland football stalwart who served as a player, coach and administrator for Northland clus and the NFF / NRF teams. Dave is a long timer supporter of girls and women's football and helped create opportunites and demand for girls to play and take part in festivals, particulary in girls-only competitions.

This new cupalongside the me;s Terry Hobin Cup, brings the cup champions of Auckland and Northland together at the start of the community season to celebrate football throughout the NRF region. These Cups are a fantastic way to thank our supporters, particularly Oxford Sports Trust in Northland and New Zealand Community Trust in Auckland for all they do to help NRF deliver community football.

Unfortunately, the Terry Hobin cup cannot be played this year due to 2024 NRF Mens Federation Cup winners Uni-Mount Bohemian Soupsville disbanding in the off season. Instead, Stafford Choat Cup winners will play a friendly against Onerahi men in its place.
