Junior Football in our Region

Delivering Junior Football

Junior Football is delivered to tamariki by the Clubs around the Northern Region. The aim is to give every child a fun and enjoyable experience that will give the players a lifelong love of football.

Age eligibility is determined by your age as of 31 December 2026. For example, if you turn 11 in 2026 (11 years old by 31 December 2026) then you will play in the U11 grade.

In 2026, NRF offers the following junior competitions:
U10 Mixed
U11 Mixed
U12 Mixed
U10/11 Girls
U12/13 Girls

In 2027, U13 Mixed will also become a junior grade.

Teams play home and away within their regional sports region (Harbour, Waitakere, Central Auckland, and South Auckland). Kick off times tend to be 9am, 10am, 11am and 12pm. Games can occasionally be 8am or 1pm, especially on days where multiple fields in the region are closed. All information including playing dates and draws are published on the Northern Region Football website.

Under 9 and below are administered internally by local clubs. Contact your local club for more information.

NRF provides fixtures for U9-U12 gamedays. Teams play on a home & away basis between 8.00am-1.30pm on Saturday mornings.

U10/11 play 7v7 for 2x 25 minute halves. U12/13 play 9v9 for 2x 27.5 minute halves.

On this page are links to the fixtures for each region and to the NRF Junior Handbook which provides a more detailed look at some of the key details on how junior football operates within the Northern Region.

Fluid Fixture System
There are no public facing results, standings or divisions in junior football. The main goal of junior football is to give each and every child a fun and enjoyable experience that will give the players a lifelong love of football. Clubs will submit results of matches to NRF so that NRF can assess each teams challenge point. If NRF identifies that a future schedule fixture is no longer at the correct challenge point, NRF will change the teams involved in the fixture so that everyone is playing at the correct challenge point.

Cancellation Process

On occasion, fixtures will need to be cancelled where there has been inclement weather that means fields are either unable to be played on or fields would be severely damaged if they were played on. It is important to double-check the NRF website and our social media on Friday night/Saturday morning, for any venue/field/time changes.
