Going into the match, Rangers needed to win or draw to take the LOTTO NRFL Division 1 title, as long as Manurewa didn't beat Northern Rovers to send the title race to the final weekend.

After the visitors took the lead, second half goals from Kofi Dwamena and Joshua Armitt made it 2-2 and sealed the title, after Manurewa and Rovers drew 1-1.

Rangers head coach Chad Coombes said "The last thing we wanted to do was give them a two goal lead, which we spoke about all week!"

"We made it hard for ourselves but in the end we got back to where we've been all year, and it's just a massive achievement for the club and all the players." 

"We had two injury enforced subs in the first half, then threw the kitchen at them second half, it speaks to the character of the group to fight back to 2-2. It's probably the best draw I've ever had in my life!"
