Regional Women in Leadership Programme Gets Underway!

Twenty-seven candidates representing NRF clubs came together on Saturday for the first workshop of NRF’s Regional Women in Leadership Programme. The day focused on values, emotional intelligence, mindset, and building connections among women in football

The Women in Leadership Programme is a key part of NRF’s Gender Equity Action Plan, which aims to increase the number of women in leadership positions. The program is recognising potential, building capability, and ensuring women’s voices shape the future of our game.

“It was amazing to have this group together for the first time. This is the third cohort through the programme and there are so many clubs represented this year. The discussions had and connections made throughout the day are so valuable and reiterate how important this programme is,” said Shannon Chapman, NRF Girls & Women’s Lead.

Participants shared their experiences and reflected on the value of connecting with other women who share similar challenges and aspirations in the football space. One participant said, “It was awesome getting to meet other women who are so passionate about football and leadership. Hearing their different journeys and challenges was really motivating; it made me feel part of a bigger community.”

Others echoed the importance of having a supportive network around them. “I felt inspired and encouraged to continue to pursue my career as a coach and leader in our women’s space. Regardless of the hardship, it's always good to know that there's a village behind you supporting you,” shared another candidate.

By creating a space for connection with like-minded women, the programme helps establish a lasting support system that participants can lean on when they return to their clubs. The hope is that each candidate will take their learnings back to their roles and continue to enhance their impact, inspiring more women to get involved and lead in football.
