100% of Northern Region Football club Incorporated Societies have re-registered under the new 2022 act, ensuring they are fit for the future and can continue to serve their members.
"This is a great example of change where everyone plays its part. The Act allowed a long lead in and Sport NZ Ihi Aotearoa led on behalf of the sector and NZ Football developed useful football specific templates. NRF worked in partnership with clubs to support them through this process and clubs did the hard mahi to ensure they were set for the future and engaged their membership to support the change. Football clubs have a huge amount to juggle and it is a big achievement that everyone's across the line, and they should be proud," said NRF CEO Laura Menzies.
This process was detailed and often complicated, but achieving re-registration puts clubs in a better place, with constitutions and policies that meet required standards for today, as well as avoiding the risk of being unable to access the vital grant funding needed to operate.
Helping clubs re-register by the 5 April 2026 deadline has been a priority for NRF since the Act came into law, and is a signifcant example our work to promote Thriving Club Communities. Our approach was making sure clubs had quality resources, with the help of New Zealand Football's templates, and tailoring them to clubs' needs through the use of tools like our AI chat bot and making sure clubs got the message through clear and timely communication, in an effort led by our Club Support team.
