WATCH: First Bob Patterson Medal awarded to Stephen and Natasha West of Otahuhu United

Otahuhu United leaders Stephen and Natasha West were presented the first Bob Patterson Medal at Moana Cup festivities late Sunday afternoon.

The medal is a Northern Region Football initiative to recognise football leaders in tribute to Bob Patterson, who was serving as NRF President when he passed away in 2024.

An NRF and New Zealand Football life member, and former Auckland Football Federation and NZF CEO, Bob made a massive contribution to the game throughout Tāmaki Makaurau and across New Zealand.

“Bob was a mentor to so many, and helped grow a new generation of football leaders - we were honoured to have Bob’s wife Petreece and daughter Debbie at the ceremony today,” said Laura Menzies, NRF CEO.

Stephen and Natasha West have made an outstanding contribution at Otahuhu United, and played a massive part in building the thriving community club it is today.

They’ve helped create initiatives like the South Auckland junior cluster, and Moana Cup festival. They deliver a popular Fantails programme for young girls, and have worked with Council to upgrade all facilities at Seaside Park.

They both find time to play for Otahuhu United, while Steven also coaches the Otahuhu United women's team.

They also undertake the millions of jobs behind the scenes it takes to run a football club, helped by their passionate committee and volunteers.

“The Bob Patterson Medal is all about recognising football leaders making a difference for their communities, and Stephen and Natasha’s passion for Otahuhu United and the wider South Auckland community is clear,” said Laura Menzies.

“We can’t think of a more fitting tribute to Bob’s legacy than awarding it to Stephen and Natasha. This thriving community club is testament to Natasha and Steven’s vision, leadership and hard work, and their ability to bring people with them.”
